A.C.T (the A.C.T Canine Association inc) - asks that you buy your pure bred pup from an (Australian
National Kennel Council) ANKC recognised breeder. If you can not find or do not know what breed of
dog you want or if you do not want a pedigree dog - before
buying a pup from a non ANKC member or from a pet shop
please consider visiting a dog rescue service and take
home one of their dogs.
Each pedigree dog breed has its own characteristics
and with over 200 different breeds there is an ideal breed of dog for everyone.
You should consider all their characteristics and match them with your
personality and lifestyle and then you are more likely to have a happy and
fulfilling relationship with your dog.
Currently cross bred dogs are being sold with such promises
of being non allergic, non shedding, non odorous, vibrant and energetic. These
are specific traits bred from the pure bred breeds behind those dogs and should
be a consideration for buying a pure bred pedigree dog in the first instance.

| "The Australian National Kennel Council and its Member Bodies believe that
breeding programs should only be undertaken responsibly and for the purpose of
improving the breed. Due consideration must be given to recognised hereditary
problems in any breeding program. Any resulting surplus stock should be placed
only in homes where the owners are committed to responsible dog ownership."
"We are opposed to the production of dogs by those people who breed without
regard for the quality of the animals that they produce; and without accepting
responsibility for placing of the dogs only in homes where the owners understand,
and are prepared to undertake a commitment to responsible ownership."

Toby and these other Rescue sites are not for profit initiatives for the purpose
of rescue and re-housing our canine friends. They
list most if not all rescue services in Australia
by state and/or by breed specific rescue services.
IMPORTANT
- We
also ask - that if
you own a pure bred dog and through unfortunate circumstances
need assistance in re-homing the dog, please contact
the breeder first and let them know. They may have
an option available where you may not need to draw
on the services of a rescue agency. We
thank
you for your assistance in promoting
the health and welfare of our canine friends.
